Welcome to our research exploration!
We're investigating how changing snow patterns (especially about decreasing snow cover duration), caused by climate change, impact young trees in the snowy forests of Hokkaido, Japan.
In a rapidly changing world, we aim to accurately record how tree seedlings will respond to the shifting snow patterns and assume the future forests structure and its function.
The novelty of our study is that we are trying to figure out how gap structures, unique to forest ecosystems and creating heterogeneous environments, can mediate shifting snow effects on tree seedlings.
We have set up the experiment with different snow treatments - control and decreased snow cover duration - and different canopy structures - under canopy and under gap, with five replications in fall 2022.
This website is our platform for sharing our discoveries (coming soon!!!).
If you are interested, please contact Yihan*, the PhD student in our lab who is in charge of this project.
